Pressure to lower carbon footprints now comes from customers, not only regulators. The difficulty is that most sustainability claims in logistics are hard to verify.
Three things that can be traced
Route optimisation is the most direct. Shorter routes with fewer stops mean less fuel — and that shows up in trip data, not in a brochure.
Electric fleet options for urban delivery come second. Their range is limited to certain distances, and precisely because of that the claim can be checked: which routes are served by electric vehicles, and how many.
The third is the one most often overlooked: paper reduction. Electronic bills of lading and proof of delivery remove physical documents that would otherwise be printed and couriered.
The question that separates them
Rather than asking whether a provider "cares about the environment", ask which part of their operation changed, and how that change is recorded. If the answer cannot be shown in operational data, it most likely has not changed yet.
